Today's blog post will be a review on Hungry For Change - film revealing all the nasties that are in the food we buy and eat.

Hungry for Change is a 2012 documentary about the shocking secrets the diet, weight-loss and food industry don't want you to know about; deceptive strategies designed to keep you coming back for more.

In my opinion, Hungry for Change is an educational film which should be watched. It exposes what happens when you body ingests MSG, artificial sweeteners or even preservatives. It shows us the truth about dieting and tells us what to do and what not to do.

The film's research was backed up with many interviews to weight loss and diet experts, ex-dieters and even a story line in the background about a woman who starts her journey to having a healthy, happy life.

Here is the pros and cons about this film:

  • Pros

  • The film exposes us to the harms to eating MSG, artificial sweeteners, preservatives and processed foods by showing us diagrams, providing science experiments as research and interviewing experts like ex-dieters and scientists.

  • The movie addresses the importance of letting go of feelings of guilt, shame, etc related to your body image and how you relate to food. This helps with beating anxiety and making you feel good in your own skin.

  • Hungry for Change promotes the consumption of more greens and even vegetables and fruits in general by referencing Joe Cross' journey in Fat Sick and Nearly Dead. They talked about how good juicing can be and even interviewed Joe Cross himself. There, he talked about his journey and what worked and what didn't. He also gave advise for the people watching at home.

  • They showed a clip of Jamie Oliver talking about chocolate milk and how much sugar we drink within it. He provided a strong argument and lots of examples like pouring a wheel-barrow load of sugar on the stage floor. This wowed the audience and the viewers at home.

  • Cons

  • They fell a little short on their healthy fat recommendations. They suggested plant based fats like avocado, olive oil, etc. but didn’t mention coconut oil at all. Coconut oil is high in natural saturated fats. Saturated fats not only increase the healthy cholesterol (known as HDL) in your body, but also help to convert the LDL “bad” cholesterol into good cholesterols. By Increasing the HDL's in the body, it helps promote heart health, and lower the risk of heart disease.

  • They talk about the importance of gelatinous foods like chia seeds and aloe vera, which is true, but don’t mention Gelatin, which is one of the best sources of gelatin (obviously).
